What is Digital Eye Strain?
Eye strain affects vision and is caused by frequent, prolonged periods of staring at digital screens.
Digital eye strain symptoms vary; however, common symptoms are:
- Dry eyes
- Irritated eyes
- Blurred vision
- Shoulder and neck stiffness
- Reduced attention span
- Poor behaviour
Digital eye strain develops because of the repetitive motion of our eyes, combined with screen glare, blue light, contrast, and flickering, plus looking from papers on a desk and back to the screen – our eyes need to keep re-adjusting and this takes a lot of effort from our eye muscles.
Talk to us about what you child’s technology habits are (or even your own if you are having problems) and we can help protect against discomfort.
Our behavioural optometrist can help anyone with tests of the visual skills that are important to learning, work and life.
The behavioural optometrist tests the muscle control of the eyes to ensure that they are focusing well from board to book, to laptop, and that your eyes are tracking across the page or screen for fluent reading.
Vision problems can contribute to learning problems, if your child is struggling they may have a learning-related vision problem that can be diagnosed by our behavioural optometrist.
