Eye Examination

Regular eye examinations are as important as any other health check. We only have one pair of eyes! Our aim is to keep yours healthy.

Our practice is equipped with the latest technology to examine your entire visual system and measure and record any changes over time.

The first thing we do at your appointment is take thorough notes of your history and symptoms. We will ask you about your history of spectacle wear, the reason you have come for an eye examination, and any problems you are currently having with your glasses and/or contact lenses.

We will also enquire about your general health and any medications you are taking (as some health conditions and medications can affect your eyes), whether you or your family have a history of eye problems. We are also interested in your working environment and any hobbies you have, to help us find the visual correction that works best for you.

If you currently wear glasses they will be measured and assessed to see how your eyes are changing over time.

If you are a contact lens wearer, we will assess the strength and design of your contact lenses to give you the best vision and comfort through your lenses.

Our eye examination all include:

  • An assessment of how your eyes are focusing so we can maximise the clarity of your vision
  • An assessment of the muscles of your eyes and the balance between the two eyes
  • A thorough health check of your eyes, including for cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease if you have diabetes.

After the eye test, we will discuss with you the results gathered and the best course of action, whether that may be monitoring an eye condition, referral to an ophthalmologist or new glasses.

If you need new glasses or would like new frames, our optical assistants will guide you through the process of choosing a frame that makes you look and feel great.
